estudio.k has carried out the reconstruction works of San Vicente Sport Center´s stand in Barakaldo.
The stand was originally built like the project of the architect Álvaro Líbano, in June 1959.
The original San Vicente Sport Center’s stand was a protected element, included in the Protection Catalogue of the General Plan, with Structural Protection rank, because it was the first concrete-corbel-cover in Bizkaia. This had suffered the damage of the years, and it was declared as a ruin in 2010. It was decided to demolish the original stand, and build up a new one, exactly to the first.
The works have been completed in six months, recovering one of the Barakaldo’s most symbolic structures. The project has been made respecting the original design, keeping the same size, geometry, section and disposition. Similar materials have been used, but with better resistance and durability.
The structure of the stand has been made completely in reinforced concrete, and it has a great corbel supported by seven rows of beams. Under the stand, there is a useful floor with bathrooms and change rooms inside. The structure is formed by superficial foundations and some columns. In those columns there are supported some leaning beams, with constant section. The beams of the cover are curved and have changing section, been smaller in the edge.
During the construction of the cover, the works have been made very carefully, for being an unique piece of concrete, with only 12cm section, which will fall more than 80cm after removing the frame.
